Space-Time Finite Element Approximation and Numerical Solution of Hereditary Linear Viscoelasticity Problems
In this paper we suggest a fast numerical approach to treat problems of the hereditary linear viscoelasticity, which results in the system of elliptic partial differential equations in space variables , who’s coefficients are Volterra integral operators of the second kind in time. We propose to approximate the relaxation kernels by the product of purely timeand space-dependent terms, which is a...
متن کاملAnalysis of finite element approximation for time-dependent Maxwell problems
We provide an error analysis of finite element methods for solving time-dependent Maxwell problem using Nedelec and Thomas-Raviart elements. We study the regularity of the solution and develop some new error estimates of Nedelec finite elements. As a result, the optimal L-error bound for the semidiscrete scheme is obtained.
متن کاملAdaptive Space-Time Finite Element Methods for Parabolic Optimization Problems
In this paper we summerize recent results on a posteriori error estimation and adaptivity for space-time finite element discretizations of parabolic optimization problems. The provided error estimates assess the discretization error with respect to a given quantity of interest and separate the influences of different parts of the discretization (time, space, and control discretization). This al...
متن کاملSpace-Time Finite Element Methods for Dynamic Frictional Contact Problems
Space-time finite element methods for dynamic frictional contact problems are discussed in this article. The discretization scheme is based on a mixed formulation of the continuous problem, where the Lagrange multipliers represent the contact and frictional stresses. Using piecewise d-linear and globally continuous basis functions in space and time to construct the trial space for the displacem...
متن کاملSolution of Harmonic Problems with Weak Singularities Using Equilibrated Basis Functions in Finite Element Method
In this paper, Equilibrated Singular Basis Functions (EqSBFs) are implemented in the framework of the Finite Element Method (FEM), which can approximately satisfy the harmonic PDE in homogeneous and heterogeneous media. EqSBFs are able to automatically reproduce the terms consistent with the singularity order in the vicinity of the singular point. The newly made bases are used as the compliment...
